This has been the best summer of my life. I can't remember ever having so much fun, even when I was a kid. I was so sad to see it come to an end. My friend Leanne, her daughter Kendall and I were so sad about this blessed season coming to an end that we decided to have a funeral for summer. We painted rocks that said things like "I love summer", we popped yellow balloons that symbolized the sun, we made rain and stood under it with umbrellas to get ready for the rain, we ate worms in dirt (smashed oreos and gummy worms) and swedish fish in blue jello to symbolize the fun we had at the river, we wrote down our memories of summer and put them in a coffin (black shoe box) then had a ceremony and buried summer in the ground. It was fun and sad all at the same time.

Here is the funny poem we all read at the funeral:
We played by the river while the sun did shine
All we can say is that is was sure fine
For those days we will always pine
In our heart the memories will shine

Well, at least the tombstone doesn't say "July 10, 2009 - July 20, 2009" - that's what it was like here in Minnesota! :)
What a fun idea. So glad it was a wonderful summer. Ours went way to quick. I still feel like I should have had one more month. Granite countertops come this week.
You are amazing! A funeral for summer. Genius!
What a fun end of summer celebration!
