Ever since we moved to Roseburg Richard has really wanted the kids to have a chance to participate in 4-H and earn some money raising and selling an animal. This year our oldest is the right age to start. He wants to raise a lamb. Since we don't have enough land and are not zoned for livestock, we are working on a friend''s ranch in exchange for the use of their land to raise a sheep.
Our first family project was to clean out the sheep pen. It was about a three hour project, shoveling and hauling to the manure pile. Last week Richard took the oldest two to help get the hay for the winter and load it into the loft. This weekend we will be helping to haul the feed to the barrels. It is a great experience and one of the perks is that we get to fish in their pond!!

That is so awesome! Definitely some dirty work involved, but they sure are smiling I'm sure they'll never forget it!
So much fun!
"That is so Amazingly Awesome!!" You guys are my heros!
Cool - looks like they are having fun!!
That sounds like a really great project. I ran a home ec food and clothing 4 h club when Tina was 8 until she was about 11. I love the 4-H program. Have fun!
I like this because not only do your kids get to do 4H, but also, you get to teach your kids the value of work. What more could a mom want?
Hi!! What a great idea for your family!! Looks like they all really enjoyed it!
